Flint Firebirds News Release

Flint, Mich. - It was a memorable night for Brennan Othmann and his family as the New York Rangers selected the Firebirds forward in the first round (#16 overall) of the 2021 NHL Draft.

The 18-year-old Othmann produced 33 Pts (17 G, 16 A) in 55 GP in his first season with the Firebirds back in 2019-20, setting the rookie franchise record for both points and goals. He spent the 2020-21 season overseas playing pro hockey for EHC Olten in Switzerland. He contributed 16 Pts (7 G, 9 A) in 34 GP.

Othmann was the 2nd overall pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection draft of the Firebirds. He becomes just the second Firebird in franchise history to be drafted in the 1st round of the NHL Draft (Ty Dellandrea, 2018).

The NHL Draft continues tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET on NHL Network in the United States and Sportsnet in Canada. Both Braeden Kressler and Dmitry Kuzmin are projected to be selected from the Firebirds.
