Tri-City Storm News Release
Kearney, NE. - Tri-City Storm forward Brendan Furry, and defenseman Ronnie Attard have been named USHL Players of the Week following the Storm's three game weekend that included season sweeps over both Central Illinois and Waterloo. This is the second time this season that Brendan Furry has been named the USHL's Forward of the Week, and the fourth time this year that Ronnie Attard has been named the Defenseman of the Week. Tri-City returns home for two games against Chicago on Friday and Saturday. Puck drop for each game is set for 7:05pm.
Brendan Furry, 20, of Toledo, Ohio scored three goals, recorded five assists, and was a +8 in three games played this weekend for the Storm. Furry registered three assists in Tri-City's 5-2 defeat of the Central Illinois Flying Aces on Friday night and was named the 2nd Star of the Game. Furry also recorded an assist in Saturday's 3-1 win over Central Illinois, assisting on Connor McMenamin's empty net goal that sealed the Storm's win. On Sunday, Furry scored three goals against the Waterloo Black Hawks to record his 1st Career USHL Hat Trick. Furry scored one goal in each period on Sunday, including converting on a rare penalty shot goal in regulation. The three-goal game from Furry was also his third multi goal game this season.
"From here on out, we know how important it is to get two points every night, that's our main goal, and it was a huge weekend for us to be able to go out and get six points in the standings. For the past couple of games, I haven't really produced offensively, so I tried to get back to the basics and do what I know I can do. Sunday was a big game for me, it felt good to break through and get that first USHL hat trick, but the two points in the standings were huge." - Brendan Furry
Ronnie Attard, 19, of White Lake, Michigan scored two goals, recorded three assists, and was a +4 in Tri-City's three wins this weekend. Attard was named the 3rd Star of the Game on Friday and was also named the 3rd Star of the Game on Saturday following a one goal, one assist performance in the Storm's season sweep of the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Attard recorded two assists in Sunday's 6-3 win over Waterloo and scored the game winning goal in the 2nd period. His 2nd period goal was his 20th of the season, breaking the USHL record for most goals scored by a defenseman in a single season in the league's Tier I history (2002-present). Attard leads all USHL players in plus/minus for the 2018-2019 regular season, with a current plus/minus rating of +40.
"Three in threes are super tough, and we haven't been the best in them so far this year, so it was a big growth spur for us to be able to win all three games this weekend. It's tough to get three wins on the road, and I thought for us to go into Waterloo on Sunday and finish off the weekend with a win showed a lot character. I had no clue I was approaching the record for most goals in a season by a defenseman until someone mentioned it in the locker room before the game, it was awesome for it to be a meaningful goal in the game too." - Ronnie Attard
