Breakers Prepare for Rematch with Sky Blue FC
June 14, 2013 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Boston Breakers News Release
Nearing the halfway point of the 2013 National Women's Soccer League season, the Breakers get set to take on a surging Sky Blue FC team with hopes of getting three points and climbing the NWSL table.
A win, coupled with a Western New York loss to Washington Saturday, will push the Breakers up to fourth place from their current spot of fifth. A Breakers win and a WNY draw would see both teams level on 15 points.
The Breakers enter Sunday's match at Dilboy Stadium with a 3-3-3 record, most recently losing, 1-0, to the Chicago Red Stars on the road. The Breakers, however, have fared far better at home, putting together a 2-0-2 record. The last time the Breakers faced Sky Blue FC - June 1 in New Jersey - the result didn't go in their favor. Sky Blue took a 5-1 victory.
"We're looking forward to having the opportunity to play against Sky Blue again, and to have a better performance than last time," Breakers Head Coach Lisa Cole said. "And we hope the younger players take advantage of the opportunity they've been giving."
The young players include four callups due to four Breakers off on international duty. Midfielders Kate Russell, Shawna Gordon, and Monique LaMotte, and defender Jen LaPonte join the Breakers roster Sunday to take the place of Heather O'Reilly and Sydney Leroux (playing for the U.S. vs. Korea Republic) and Rhian Wilkinson and Adriana Leon (playing for the Canada vs. Germany).
Sunday's match begins at 6:30 p.m. ET at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville, Mass. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.breakerstickets.com or by calling 617-945-1704.
