Mississippi Braves News Release
Jackson, TN - In the final game of a five-game series, the Mississippi Braves defeat the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx 11-2 and take four of five from West Tenn. The M-Braves move their record to 5-5 and have won five of their last six games.
The Braves never trailed and got the scoring started in the 3rd inning. Luis Bolivar reached on the first of five West Tenn errors and later scored on a ground out to make it a 1-0 game. The D-Jaxx tied it in the 4th when Carlos Peguero doubled in Mike Wilson. This would be as close as West Tenn got the entire game.
In the 5th inning, Mississippi would send seven men to the plate and score two of them. Willie Cabrera's sac fly gave him his first of four RBI's on the day. Eric Duncan would also single in a run give the Braves a 3-1.
The M-Braves kept it rolling in the 6th inning by scoring Travis Jones, Luis Bolivar and Alex Romero. Jones scored on an error and the other two scored on a double by Willie Cabrera. In the bottom of the inning, West Tenn loaded the bases but only scored a run and Mississippi led 6-2 at the end of the 6th.
The Braves surged further ahead with a three run 8th inning. Travis Jones came to the plate on a wild pitch. Luis Bolivar scored on a Cabrera single and Orlando Mercado scored on a Donell Linares sacrifice fly, making the score 9-2 M-Braves.
In the 9th, Mississippi scored two more runs. Mauro Gomez doubled. Bolivar and Mercado were walked. Alex Romero drove in two runs with a single and the Braves led 11-2.
The bullpen for the Braves was once again remarkable. Michael Broadway and Tommy Palica came on to face the 12 batters of the game. Broadway faced 7 and struck out 5 and Tommy Palica faced 5 batters and struck all of them out. The two hurlers K'd 10 of the last 11 Diamond Jaxx to end the game.
The Braves win the series 4 games to 1 and now return home for a five-game home stand vs. Mobile. Game 1 will be tomorrow night at 7:05 at Trustmark Park. Braves will go with LHP Mike Minor while the BayBears will use RHP Wes Roemer.
