Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Augusta Greenjackets 8-4 Saturday evening at State Mutual Stadium before 4,215 fans.
Rome jumped out front 1-0 in the second inning when Adam Coe tripled and scored on a base hit by Cody Johnson. Augusta took the lead in the sixth with three runs highlighted by a two run double by Garrett Baker. The Braves grabbed the lead back in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jason Heyward and a two RBI single by Matt Kennelly giving Rome the 4-3 advantage. The GreenJackets tied the game in the seventh on a run scoring single by Nick Noonan.
Rome bounced right back with two runs in their half of seventh when Freddie Freeman singled home CJ Lee and Samuel SIme for the 6-4 score. Rome added insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Sime and a run scoring double by CJ Lee. The Braves bullpen held the GreenJackets the rest of the way for the 8-4 victory.
Michael Mehlich (1-2) gets the win for Rome while Wilmin Rodriguez (1-1) is tagged with the loss for Augusta.
