Danville Otterbots News Release

Bluefield, WV.-The Danville Braves hung on tonight to win by a score of 4-3. The win completes a three game sweep of the Bluefield Blue Jays and evens up the team at a .500 record. The D-Braves were led by timely pitching and outfielder, Sam Munson.

Ernesto Silva picked up his first win of the 2011 season, scattering six hits over five solid innings. Silva (1- 1) struck out four and allowed just two earned runs. Wilson Rivera and Jarret Miller would be credited with their first holds of the season, and Joe Lucas faced just one batter to pick up his second save in three days.

The D-Braves put themselves out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. After consecutive singles by Edison Sanchez, Brandon Drury, and Ryan Query, Sam Munson singled to left to score the two runners on second and third. Elmer Reyes reached on a fielding error by shortstop Cody Bartlett, and that led to Query scoring the team's third run.

Bluefield scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Kevin Pillar. The D-Braves nabbed that run back in the next half inning though. After Sam Munson led off the inning with a triple to center field, Kurt Fleming was able to hit a sacrifice fly of his own to help score Munson. Munson ended the night with two RBI while going 3-for-4 raising his average to .313. That run batted in was Fleming's fourth of the season, best on the D-Braves squad.

The Blue Jays scored one more in the bottom of the fourth after a single and two passed balls by Ryan Delgado. The runner would score on a groundout making it 4-2. The final Bluefield run was scored in the bottom of the sixth inning after Wilson Rivera replaced Silva. That would be the only inning that Rivera pitched.

Jarret Miller came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh inning. He was able to strike out four, not giving up a hit and only walking one. Joe Lucas came in to close out the ninth after a throwing error by Nick Ahmed and a walk by Miller. Lucas got the first batter he faced out on a groundout to shortstop.

Bluefield starter, Mitchell Taylor (0-1) pitched only four innings, giving up four runs, three of them earned, five hits, and striking out four.

The Danville Braves will start their home season tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they take on the Princeton Rays. Lucas LaPoint (0-1, 1.50 ERA) will take on Ian Kendall (1-0, 4.50). The first 1,000 fans at the game will receive a 2011 magnet schedule.
