Braves Give Up Lead in 9th, Lose in 10th

Danville, VA - The Danville Braves were one strike away from their third shutout in four games, but Eddie Rosario changed that in a blink of an eye. Rosario's pinch hit double in the ninth scored two for the Twins and tied the game at two a piece. The Twins were able to score another run in the tenth off of Daniel Winnie on their way to a 3-2 victory over Danville in extra innings.
Nick Ahmed led off the game with a double to the left-center gap. Elmer Reyes was able to follow it up with a double of his own down the left field line. Reyes's double scored Ahmed standing up and gave pitcher, JR Graham, a one run lead to work with.
After Ahmed scored a second time off a Brandon Drury single in the fifth the D-Braves were sitting on a 2-0 lead. Graham pitched a great game, tossing six innings of shutout ball. Graham scattered seven hits while walking two and striking out seven. Graham lowered his earned run average from 2.18 to 1.85.
Graham was in line for his fourth win of the year before the Twins tied it up in the ninth inning. Daniel Lopez was the pitcher and was working his second inning when he allowed a leadoff single and walk in the ninth. He was able to get Brandon Henderson to ground out to second, but the runners advanced to second and third. Lopez struck out the next batter, Tyler Koelling.
The Twins were down to their last out when manager, Ray Smith, put in his best hitter, Eddie Rosario. Rosario had the night off, but being as he is in the top three in homeruns, hits, and total bases, Smith thought it was the right call. It proved to be an excellent call. Down to his last strike, Rosario fought off an outside fastball before driving a pitch all the way to the wall in left-center field. Rosario tied the game and tagged Daniel Lopez with his first two earned runs in six appearances this year.
The Braves went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth and Dan Winnie came in to replace Lopez for the tenth. The first batter he faced, Kennys Vargas, crushed a pitch to right-center field for a homerun that proved to be the game winner. The Braves were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the tenth. It was Winnie's, first loss of the season and just the second homerun he has given up in 31 innings pitched.
Matt Summers pitched the tenth inning and earned his fourth save. Steven Evans earned his third win of the season after pitching the ninth inning. The Twins were able to end Danville's five game winning streak. The loss for the Braves also tied them up once again with Bluefield in the standings. Both teams have identical 27-21 records.
