
Royals End Losing Streak with Three Run Win

Greeneville, NC- The Burlington Royals snapped their four-game losing skid with an 8-5 victory over the Greeneville Astros on Tuesday night. Malcom Culver earned his second win of the season, relieving Matt Ridings.
The Royals opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when a single from Kenny Swab scored Jorge Bonifacio from second to give the visitors a short-lived lead. In the bottom of the inning, Chase Davidson doubled to lead off, and then scored when the next batter, Ernesto Genoves, singled. In the third inning, Lane Adams scored on a single from Murray Watts, as Burlington regained the lead.
The Royals' offense would continue, scoring two runs in each of the next three innings. In the fourth, Kenny Swab's RBI double made it 3-1. Justin Trapp would single to score Swab to extend the lead to three. In their next at bat, Bonifacio homered to left, his fifth of the season. Adrian Bringas would double, and score on a single from Swab to extend Burlington's advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Astros' offense would put runners on the corners with one out. A single would score one, and a double from Chase Davidson scored two, cutting the Royals' lead to two. In the sixth, with two men on, Bonifacio doubled, scoring two, extending Burlington's advantage. An RBI double from Jesse Wierzbicki would add a run in the seventh for Greeneville, but they would not be able to come back, falling by three.
Matt Ridings gave up four runs, the most since his first start of the season on June 22nd. The Appalachian League Pitcher of the Week had his shortest outing since July 14th, going four and two third innings, giving up seven hits, also tying his season high set in his first start. In relief, Culver allowed a run on a hit in two and a third innings. Rudy Brown notched his second save, striking out three in the final two innings without allowing a hit.
The Astros used five pitchers in the loss. Christopher Lee allowed four runs on eight hits, and lasted three and two third innings. Zachary Dando and James Propst combined to throw the next three and a third, allowing two runs apiece. Juan Mojica and Mark Jones held the Royals off the scoreboard for the final two innings.
Michael Antonio was the only starter to not record a hit on the team that had 15 total. Justin Trapp, Bonifacio and Swab each had three hits with three RBI, with Swab going 3-for-3 and Bonifacio hitting his fifth long ball of the season. Adams went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two walks.
For the home team, Wierzbickiand Chase Davidson each went 2-for-4, with both of Davidson's hits being doubles. They were the only Astros to record multi-hit games.
These two teams will take the field in Greeneville tomorrow night for game two of the series.
