
Braves Drop Two To Tides

Richmond, VA- The Norfolk Tides beat the Richmond Braves 5-3 in the completion of a game suspended Saturday night and beat the Braves 8-4 in Sunday's regularly scheduled game at The Diamond. The Tides scored three runs in the eighth to secure a win in the finish of the suspended contest and sent 17 men up in the first two innings of Sunday's scheduled affair to blow the game open.
The Tides trailed 1-0 at the point where Saturday's game was stopped by rain. Josh Anderson's sac fly gave Richmond the lead. The Tides promptly tied the game in the fourth as play resumed Sunday on an RBI ground out by Chris Roberson. Alex Cintron smacked a home run in the sixth to put the Tides in front. Norfolk stretched their lead in the eighth on RBI singles by Luis Terrero and Roberson, and a sac fly by Oscar Salazar. Richmond cut into the lead in the ninth on a two-run single by Scott Thorman.
Andy Mitchell earned the win. Bob McCrory collected a save. Matt DeSalvo took the loss. Cintron had three hits. Thorman and Brandon Jones had two hits each for Richmond.
In Sunday's scheduled contest the Tides batted around in the first inning, scoring four times. Salazar produced two runs with a ground rule double. Luis Terrero scored on a passed ball. Roberson capped the rally with a sac fly. Eight Tides came to the plate in the second, as Norfolk opened up a 7-0 lead. Salazar knocked in a run with a single. Chris Heintz chased two more home with a single. The Braves tallied twice in the third on a two-run single by Canizares. Tike Redman knocked in a run in the fifth to give the Tides an 8-2 lead. Richmond cut the Tides lead in half on a two run double by Sal Fasano in the eighth.
Craig Anderson earned the win. Jonathon Rouwenhorst took the loss. Infielder Derrick Arnold tossed an inning of perfect relief for the Braves. Redman had four hits for the Tides. Canizares had three hits for Richmond.
The Braves open a three game series at Durham Monday at 7:05. Charlie Morton is slated to pitch for Richmond against Scott Kazmir.
