Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - Before the games began Aug. 6, the Worcester Bravehearts knew they would clinch first place in the FCBL Western Division with a win against the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide or a loss by the Torrington Titans.
Fortunately for Worcester, both situations came true, as the Bravehearts won a 6-2 matchup in front of a sold out crowd of 3,173 fans on Aug. 6 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.
Before the Bravehearts won, the Nashua Silver Knights defeated the Titans 11-5 to officially secure first place for Worcester.
University of New Haven center fielder Brendan O'Reilly sparked the offense for the Bravehearts, as he hit a 3-run home run in the fifth inning to give the Bravehearts a 4-2 lead.
O'Reilly, who finished 1-3 with four RBI, added a sacrifice fly in the third inning for the first run of the game.
Bravehearts catcher TJ Riccio and shortstop Andy lack each hit an RBI single in the game to cap off the scoring for the home team.
Saint Leo University senior Tyrone Miller got the win after he retired all 12 batters he faced in four innings pitched. Miller did not allow a hit or walk and struck out six batters. Clark University junior Miles Sheehan got the start and pitched four innings, giving up only two hits and one earned run.
Old Orchard Beach starting pitcher Tim Holmes dropped to 2-2 on the season, as he gave up six runs on eight hits in six innings pitched.
The Raging Tide scored both of their runs in the fourth inning when shortstop Aaron Wilson scored on a wild pitch by Sheehan, and third baseman Rahiem Cooper scored on an error by Bravehearts first baseman Jordan Berry. However, Old Orchard Beach could only tally three hits in the contest.
Worcester pitcher Sam Ross pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the victory.
The 31-21 Bravehearts will play the Pittsfield Suns at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, Mass.
Tickets and vouchers for the Bravehearts' playoff matchups will be on sale all week at Hanover Insurance Park or online at www.worcesterbravehearts.com. Fans can also call the ticket office at 508-438-3773.
