Bravehearts Outlast Suns in 10
June 16, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -Â During last night's nearly four and a half hour game, the Worcester Bravehearts and the Pittsfield Suns exchanged punches throughout the game. Â As soon as one team took the lead, the other would tie it. Â This was until Worcester's Matt Diesel (Felecian/Massapequa, N.Y.) came through with the eventual game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning to give the road warriors their fourth straight win over the Suns at Wahconah Park in Pittsfield, MA.
Both starters were fairly even in their outings. Â The Bravehearts went with the arm of Kevin Stone (Harvard/Stamford, CT), who lasted five innings for the visitors, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out two Suns' batters. Â He was matched on the other side by Pittsfield's Jordan Muchin (E. Connecticut State/West Hartford, CT), who lasted just 4.2 innings, also giving up three runs on eight hits, walking two Bravehearts and striking out one. Â Both did not factor in the decision.
Diesel was huge tonight for Worcester, as he went four for seven, with two runs and three runs batted in. Â He got the scoring going for the Bravehearts first with a two-run homerun in the third inning, his first of the summer.
With the score tied at 5-5 in the seventh inning, Bravehearts' infielder Tom Walraven (New Haven/Thompson Ridge, N.Y.) notched a two-run single giving Worcester the 7-5 lead.  However, in the bottom of the eighth, Pittsfield's Thomas Hughes (U. of Oklahoma/Norman, OK) earned a two-run single of his own, tying the game back up by a score of 7-7.
The score would remain that way until Diesel knocked in the go-ahead run on an RBI-single. Â He would later come home with another Worcester RBI-single off the bat of John Friday (Franklin Pierce/Marlborough, MA). Â Suns' pitcher Kevin Hassett (UMass-Amherst/Springfield, MA) took the loss, giving up both runs in the 12th.
Talylor Williams (Xavier/Castle Rock, CO) picked up his first win of the summer in his first appearance, going two innings of scoreless, one-hit ball to close out Worcester's fourth straight win.
The Worcester Bravehearts return home on Thursday, June 16th at 7:05PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA as they play host to the Brockton Rox.  Tickets for this game, and all future Bravehearts games, are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
