Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts (9-3) notched their fifth consecutive win in a 3-2 victory over the Brockton Rox (6-7) at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA. A season-high crowd of 3,899 watched Bravehearts starter Frankie Moscatiello (St. Thomas Aquinas) pitch lights out, setting a new single-game record for strikeouts with 11 K's!
Moscatiello collected his first win of the season. He finished his outing after six scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and three walks to go with those record 11 strikeouts in the game.
There was plenty to cheer about on the offensive side of the base for Worcester tonight. In the bottom of the second, John Friday (Franklin Pierce/Marlborough, MA) smacked an RBI-triple, scoring Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA) and giving Worcester a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Matt Diesel (Felican/Massapequa, N.Y.) drove in Tom Walraven (New Haven/Thompson Ridge, N.Y.) on a sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI-double by Zach Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA), extending the Bravehearts lead to 3-0 lead.
Brockton starter Justin Lasko (UMass/Stratford, CT) took the loss for the Rox, going six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out five.
Brockton, however, made it interesting late in the game. Anthony George (UCF/Oviedo, FL) scored on a 6-4-3 double play in the top of the 7th, followed up with a solo homer by Trent Turner (Memphis/Brandon, Miss.), cutting the deficit to just one. That, however, would be the end of their scoring, as Worcester's bullpen held Brockton scoreless the rest of the way. Baylor LaPointe (LIU Brooklyn/Amston, CT) collected the save for the Bravehearts, his second of the summer, finishing the last two innings.
The Worcester Bravehearts next play on Friday, June 17th at 7:05PM at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester, MA as they play host to the Bristol Blues. Tickets for this game, and all future Bravehearts games, are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
