Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER - The Worcester Bravehearts' first home game was one the team will never forget.

However, the Pittsfield Suns would like to put this game behind them quickly.

Thanks in part to seven errors by the visiting Suns, the Bravehearts improved to 2 - -0 with a 7-6 victory June 5 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field.

Worcester jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning ignited by shortstop Andy Lack, who hit a leadoff double and scored the first run of the game.

Lack added two hits to finish the game a perfect 3-3 with two walks. First baseman Mark DeYoung also added to the team's hit total, going 3-4 with an RBI single but was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double into a triple in the seventh inning. Brenden O'Reilly's RBI single in the third gave the Bravehearts a 3-0 lead.

The Suns tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning before Worcester's offense exploded for three runs in the bottom half of the inning. After Pittsfield scored three runs of its own in the top of the sixth inning, designated hitter Nick Nunziato scored the eventual game-winning run when Suns left fielder Michael Valentin dropped a routine fly ball near the left field foul line.

Bravehearts pitcher Aaron Doughty ended Pittsfield's rally in the top of the sixth inning and picked up his first win of the season. University of Maine pitcher Charlie Butler picked up his second save in as many nights, retiring three Pittsfield hitters in order. Suns pitcher Blake Drew took the loss.

The Bravehearts will host the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs in game two of a four-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. June 6 at Hanover Insurance Park.
