Worcester Bravehearts News Release
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts' offense has been red hot in their last two games, compiling 23 runs on 25 hits in those two games, twelve of which came in a 12-5 thumping of their division rival, the Bristol Blues at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The Bravehearts have now won three in a row and remain in first place in the Western Division of the Futures League.
The Bristol Blues struck first in this game, scoring twice in the top of the first.  Bristol's Austin Chauvin (St. Mary's/San Ramon, CA) hit a two-run single to right field to give the Blues a 2-0 lead.  Worcester was able to get one back with a RBI-double from Matt Rothenberg (Harvard/Boca Raton, FL).  When trailing 3-1 in the third inning, the Bravehearts scored twice on a two-run triple from Rafael Bournigal (Belmont/Mulberry, FL), who later scored on a wild pitch to give the Bravehearts a 4-3 lead.
The Bravehearts starter Tom Horstkotte (Assumption/Milford, MA) lasted just three innings for Worcester.  He allowed five runs, all earned, on five hits while walking three and striking out one batter.  He did not factor in the decision.
With the game tied 5-5 in the fifth inning, Worcester's Ryan Ward (Bryant/Milbury, MA) dropped a blooper to left and drove home two of five runs in the inning, blowing the game wide open to a 10-5 lead.  In the sixth, Zack Tower (Franklin Pierce/Auburn, MA) blasted his third homerun of the season well beyond the trees in left center field, increasing the lead to 11-5.  Rothenberg finished things off with a RBI-double in the seventh; giving the Bravehearts the 12-5 win over Bristol.
Bristol pitcher Jacob Wallace (UConn/Methuen, MA) collected the loss for the Blues, lasting just 0.2 innings, allowing five runs on three hits and walking three batters.
Bravehearts pitcher Eric Close (West Chester/Berwyn, PA) notched the win for the home team, going four scoreless innings, giving up five hits and striking out three Blues batters.
