Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- With so much on the line, Westman Place will be busy Wednesday night when the Brandon Wheat Kings play host to the Prince Albert Raiders in one of seven Western Hockey League games Wednesday night.

The WHL club has announced that Wednesday's game, which will feature the 2nd Annual Nestle Purina Pucks 'n Pets Tennis Boss Toss, in support of the Brandon Humane Society, will be a complete "sell out".

The Wheat Kings enter the game needing a win if they hope to catch the Regina Pats and first place in the WHL's Eastern Division. With three home games remaining in the regular season, including a weekend home and home series with Regina, the Wheat Kings trail the Pats by five points. The Pats meanwhile travel to Moose Jaw tonight. The Warriors enter play trailing Regina by four points.

Winners of nine of their last 11 home games (9-1-1), the Wheat Kings enter the final week of the regular season with a record of 40-24-3-2. This marks the fifth time in the past seven years that Brandon has reached the 40-win plateau.

16-year old Brayden Schenn currently leads all WHL rookies in scoring with 28 goals and 70 points and is on the verge of becoming the first Wheat King rookie to win the club scoring title since Ron Chipperfield (40-43-83) in 1970-71.

Wednesday's game will feature two special on ice presentations. First, Manitoba Blue Cross will award Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame member Lois Fowler with the Performer of the Month Award. During the second intermission, Shoppers Drug Mart will announce the 2007-08 Player of the Year, as chosen by western Manitoba hockey fans during the past two months.

In other news, Wheat Kings' Season Ticket holders that reserved their 10-game playoff packages by last Friday's deadline can pick up their tickets today. Meanwhile tickets to Brandon's first two playoff home games will go on sale Thursday, March 13th at 9 a.m. at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
