The WHEAT KINGS continue their grueling 7-game in eleven day west coast excursion Friday night in VANCOUVER against the GIANTS.BRANDON kicked off the trip Wednesday night with a 4-4 overtime tie in PRINCE GEORGE.RYAN STONE scored two goals for the WHEAT KINGS, who gave up the equalizer to DUSTIN BYFUGLIEN with only 38 seconds remaining in regulation time.LANCE MONYCH and MARK SHEFCHYK also scored for the WHEAT KINGS, who received a stellar 47 save performance from netminder MIKE NICHOL.BRANDON goes into the weekend sitting in second place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division with a record of 6-3-1-1, good for fourteen points and five back of the front running SASKATOON BLADES.The WHEAT KINGS are 4-2-0-1 at home; 2-1-0 on the road; 1-0-1 vs. Western Conference clubs and 0-0-1-1 in overtime this season.Before leaving on this extended road trip, the WHEAT KINGS came from behind to beat KOOTENAY 4-3 Sunday night.Second year forward COREY COURCHENE'S first goal of the season with four minutes remaining in the third period was the difference.BRANDON went 2-2-0 on it's recent four game home stand.BRANDON currently has 24 players on it's active roster - two goalkeepers, 7 defencemen and fifteen forwards.

WHEATIES WELCOME BACK MONYCH: The PHOENIX COYOTES reassigned 20-year old forward LANCE MONYCH to the WHEAT KINGS last Thursday, giving BRANDON four overage players which meant one player had to go.The odd man out was 20-year old defenceman ANDRE BLANCHETTE, who was dealt to the COUGARS on Monday in exchange for a sixth round bantam draft choice.A fourth round draft choice of the COYOTES, MONYCH began the season with the IDAHO STEELHEADS and is coming off a career year that saw him score 29 goals and 55 points in 58 games to finish fifth in club scoring.

WHOSE BEEN HOT? RYAN STONE had his 8-game point scoring streak snapped last Saturday night against the TIGERS. During the streak, the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS' second round draft choice had seven goals and 16 points.STONE has points in ten of 11 games this season and is currently among the league scoring leaders with 21 points including ten goals.Captain TIM KONSORADA is 4-10-14 in eleven games while ERIC FEHR, one of only three WHL players to score fifty goals last season, has ten goals and 17 points. He is currently fourth in the league in goals and second behind only DION PHANEUF of RED DEER with six powerplay markers.

MILESTONES: Captain TIM KONSORADA played his 250th career WHL game Sunday night vs. KOOTENAY.Rookie defenceman DARYL BOYLE picked up his first WHL point - an assist - on RYAN STONE'S first period goal vs. COUGARS two nights ago.ERIC FEHR is three goals shy of the century mark in his 4-year WHL career.

VS. VANCOUVER: In the only game played between these two clubs last season, the GIANTS stormed back from a 3-0 first period deficit to beat the WHEAT KINGS 4-3 at BRANDON'S Keystone Centre.Former GIANT MARK SHEFCHYK had two assists in that game.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Entering this weekend, BRANDON'S powerplay continues to lead the WHL, having connected on 16-59 (27.8) of it's chances.Penalty killing, the WHEAT KINGS are ranked 18th at 78%.

BRANDON BITS: In addition to announcing the return of LANCE MONYCH on Friday, the WHEAT KINGS dealt the rights to DAUPHIN KINGS defenceman TYLER HARDER to CALGARY for a sixth round draft pick in next year's bantam draft.Left-winger COREY COURCHENE has been named winner of the 2004 PROVINCIAL ABORIGINAL ATHLETIC JUNIOR AWARD.Saturday night's crowd of 4,185 was the second largest of the season.BRANDON has drawn 25,000 fans through it's first seven home games of the regular season.RYAN STONE is one of three WHL players that have scored two shorthanded goals this season. In addition to moving BLANCHETTE this week, the WHEAT KINGS reassigned 16-year old right-winger MORGAN MACLEAN.Next home game for the WHEAT KINGS is November 11th vs. the EVERETT SILVERTIPS.
