NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A two goal effort by Tyler Skworchinski and 46 saves in net gave the Brahmas the 2-0 lead in the Southern Conference Semifinals with a 3-2 overtime win over the Odessa Jackalopes Saturday night.
Lee Jubinville scored his second goal in as many nights early in the game beating Joel Martin with Texas' first shot on goal for the 1-0 lead. Matt Burto was credited with the assist. Seven minutes later Sebastien Thinel and the Odessa offense rallied back with a goal of their own at the 9:11 mark; the score would remain tied headed into the first intermission.
It was Jacks forward Brian Swiniarski called for a high sticking penalty in the second to put Texas on the powerplay. The man advantage was just the thing to welcome Tyler Skworchinski back to the Brahmas lineup as he netted a powerplay goal in his first game in the series.
Two and a half minutes into the final period Kory Karlander displayed his stick handling skills as he skated from behind the net to the front of Jaeger's crease and unleashed his shot for a 2-2 game. A decision could not be made in regulation as Game Two needed an extra 20 minutes, the Brahmas second overtime game in the 2010 postseason.
The Brahmas PK unit killed off two Odessa powerplays, and just as the game looked to be headed into a second overtime, Justin Kinnunen found a puck in the winding seconds in the defensive zone and skated hard in toward Martin. Skworchinski, with seven ticks remaining on the clock, dove in and beat Martin for the 3-2 overtime victory and 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Jaeger stopped 46 shots in goal for his fourth consecutive postseason win. The best of seven series now shifts to back home to Texas with Game Three (Home Playoff Game 2) on Wednesday at the NYTEX Sports Centre with a 7:05 PM faceoff.
