Brahmas beat 'Bats to win third straight
November 5, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
The Fort Worth Brahmas scored two goals in a 54 second span of the third period to break open a tie game and go on to defeat the Austin Ice Bats 5-3 in a CHL game Friday night at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
With the score deadlocked at 3 just past the midway point of the final period, Fort Worth team captain Brad Lukowich was sent to the penalty box as a result of a cross checking minor. One minute and twenty seconds into the Lukowich penalty, Fort Worth center Bryan Lundbohm created a turnover just inside the Brahmas blueline. Lundbohm poked the puck past an Austin defenseman and broke into the Ice Bats zone on a two on one rush with Fort Worth left wing Chad Woollard. Lundbohm held onto the puck the entire way and flipped a shot from the left wing circle past Austin goaltender Peter Brady for a shorthanded goal to give Fort Worth a 4-3 lead.
Just 54 seconds after the Lundbohm goal, winger Jan Jas banged home the rebound of an Aaron Davis shot to extend the Fort Worth margin to 5-3. The Brahmas then tightened the clamps defensively and smothered any Austin hopes of a comeback.
Also scoring goals in the game for Fort Worth were forwards Derrell Upton, Brian Bansner, and Martin Paquet. The goal for Paquet extended his point scoring streak to five consecutive games. Center Aaron Davis also played a major part in the Fort Worth offensive attack, as he assisted on three of the Brahmas goals.
Dan Murphy stopped 16 of the 19 shots he faced in the game to get the win in net for Fort Worth. Brady took the loss for Austin, allowing the 5 Fort Worth goals on 28 shots.
The win was the third straight for the Brahmas and improved their record to 3-1-1 on the season. Coupled with the losses by Memphis and Oklahoma City, the Brahmas now move into sole possesion of first place in the Northeast Division of the CHL.
The Brahmas will try to continue their winning ways on Saturday night, November 6, when they host the Lubbock Cotton Kings at the FWCC. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will be Ashley Furniture Youth Jersey Night, as the first 2,000 children 12 and under through the gates will receive a free Brahmas youth jersey courtesy of Ashley Furniture.
