Knoxville Smokies News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (40-26, 74-61) defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts (23-43, 58-78) 12-1 Friday night at AT&T Field behind a monstrous performance by first baseman Justin Bour, who fell a triple shy of the cycle and finished 3-for-5 with six RBIs and a run scored.
After Matt Szczur began the game with an infield single and advanced to third base on a steal and groundout, Bour went opposite field with a two-run homer over the left field wall to bring in Szczur and give Tennessee an early 2-0 lead.
Tennessee kept the offense rolling in the next inning when Rubi Silva led off the second with a single to right field. Brett Jackson stepped to the plate in the next at-bat and doubled to center field. Silva moved to third on the play but crossed home plate on a throwing error by Lookouts center fielder Joc Pederson to extend the Smokies lead to 3-0.
The Cubs Double-A-affiliate added on later in the inning as Arimendy Alcantara laced a two-run single with the bases loaded to score Jackson and catcher Rafael Lopez for a 5-0 Tennessee lead. The Smokies added three more runs in the second frame on a Bour single and Christian Villanueva double to take an 8-0 lead over Chattanooga.
The Smokies extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning when Jackson sent his second triple with Tennessee to straightaway center and scored on a Lopez groundout to push the lead to 9-0.
Bour capped off his successful evening when - with the bases loaded - the first baseman doubled to left field to clear the base pads and blow open a 12-0 advantage over the Lookouts.
Smokies right-hander Eduardo Figueroa (2-2, 2.38) earned the win, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out five batters. Lookouts starter Garrett Gould (2-5, 6.19) lasted just an inning-and-a-third, giving up six earned runs.
Nick Struck (0-2, 3.63) gets the call for Tennessee Saturday afternoon while lefty Chris Reed (4-10, 3.71) will toe the rubber for Chattanooga. First pitch from AT&T Field is set for 7:15 p.m. EST.
