New York Boulders News Release

(Ramapo, NY) Rockland rallied late and scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough as the Capitales take down the Boulders 9-6.

For just the second time this season, the Boulders struck first as Cole Kraft launched a solo homerun into the Corona Short Porch in the bottom of the second. The dinger was Kraft's second of the year and first since the home opener against Newark.

But the 1-0 deficit would not faze the Capitales. In the top of the third inning, Rockland would commit three errors that turned into three runs for Quebec. Normand Gosselin, Josh Colafemina and Jonathan Malo would all come in to score to make it 3-1 Quebec.

The Boulders would continue to hurt themselves in the top of the fourth, committing another two errors that put runners in scoring position. Gosselin would knock in catcher Patrick D'Aoust on a fielder's choice while Gosselin would come home on a Jeff Helps single to make the score 5-1. The Capitales then made it 6-1 on a Malo double off of Rockland starter Booby Blevins that scored Helps.

Rockland added a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2, as Kraft continued to be the bright spot. The third baseman singled to knock in Ryan Mollica. The Boulders would then load the bases with one out, but could not capitalize as Matt Nandin grounded into an inning ending double play.

But as quickly as the Boulders would score, the Capitales kept building their lead. In the top of the sixth Malo would add to his three RBI night with a triple that brought Helps in to score. Malo would then score on an error by Boulders second baseman Chris Valencia. Rockland would finish the game with six errors.

The Boulders would not throw in the towel just yet as Matt Nandin hit a two run shot into the Short Porch in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-4. After Quebec would add one in the top of the eighth, Rockland would stage a rally of their own in the bottom of the ninth. With one out and runners on base, Keith Brachold singled to right to bring in Chris Valenica to make the score 9-5. Mollica would follow Brachold and knock in centerfielder Qualon Millender, who reached on base four times. The rally would end as Kraft would strike out with the bases loaded to end the game.

The Boulders close out their series with Quebec tomorrow in a matinee game starting at 2:00 P.M. The first 1,000 fans 14-under receive a D.A.R.E. lunchbox courtesy of the Ramapo Police Department.
