Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Idaho Falls Chukars offense continued their recent resurgence Saturday night, with the bottom third of the lineup carrying the Greybirds to a 6-4 win over the Orem Owlz in front of 2,951 fans at Melalecua Field.

Parker Morin, Nick DelGuidice and Diego Goris combined for seven hits, five RBI and all six of the Chukars runs in their series winning victory over the first place Owlz. The Chukars knocked around 10 hits in the win, marking the first time since July 28th and 29th that the club had double digit hits in back-to-back games.

On the mound the Chukars were led by starting pitcher Alec Mills (1-3), who tied a season high with six innings pitched and allowed just three unearned runs on eight hits while striking out five and earning his first professional win.

The Greybirds bullpen was also effective, with Andrew Stueve tossing two shutout innings and Kevin Allen allowing just an unearned run in the 9th while earning his fourth save.

The Idaho Falls offense got things started in the third, with DelGuidice walking, Goris driving him in on an RBI double and shortstop Adalberto Mondesi plating Goris with an RBI single to center.

The Owlz would respond with their three unearned runs in the top of the fourth, with a Mondesi fielding error opening the door for the rally.

The Chukars would pick up their shortstop with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame, however. Morin kicked things off with a two-out single to right, followed by an RBI double off the top of the center field wall from Juice. DelGuidice came in one batter later on another RBI single from Goris and Mondesi plated the final run with another RBI single of his own.

The Greybirds would pick up their final run in the sixth on another DelGuidice and Goris combination, with Juice singling to left with two outs and Goris driving him in with a double.

The Owlz would make things interesting in the ninth by bringing the tying run to the plate in Wade Hinkle, but Allen was able to save the game by inducing a fly out to left.

With the victory the Chukars take the series against the Owlz and pull within a single game of first place. The Chukars wrap up their home stand with a 4-2 record and now will head north for a 7-game road trip in Montana. Idaho Falls has an off day Sunday before starting a 3-game series against the Billings Mustangs on Monday night.
