Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The bottom of the order rose to the top for the Amarillo Dillas on Thursday night as 7-9 hitters Willie James, Brian Bueno and Corey Lozano scored four runs, four hits and a homerun as the Dillas defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder 9-3 in front of 3,007 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Taylor Allen (1-2) got the win in eight innings of work, allowing only three runs on seven hits. Thunder starter Miliade Venas (1-1) suffered the loss as he allowed eight of the nine runs in six innings of work.
Amarillo was able to get on the board first in the first as Keanon Simon scored on an error. Despite scoring first, the Dillas could not hold the lead as the Thunder scored three runs off four hits in the second inning for a 3-1 lead.
The Dillas would chip away at the lead in the second with an RBI groundout by Lozano. They would take the lead in the third when Trent Lockwood hit a two-run homerun, his seventh of the season, for a 4-3 Amarillo lead.
James would walk to lead off the fourth, stole a base and scored on another Lozano single. Lozano also stole second and scored on an Andrew Wong single to give Amarillo a three-run lead. Bueno would hit his first homerun of the season, which scored Lozano for a 8-3 Dillas lead.
Amarillo would add on another run with an RBI single by Justin Wenger. That's all the run support Allen would need as he allowed only two hits, no walks and struck out three through the six innings he pitched past the second and allowed no runs. Reliever Andy Noonan came in for the ninth and finished things off to preserve the 9-3 victory.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 12-9, while the Thunder fall to 11-10. Friday, Amarillo will host Coastal Bend for the second game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:50pm online via AudioSportsOnline.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
