
Boston Red Sox Acquire Joe Cotton from Black Bears

PITTSFIELD- The Boston Red Sox have reached an agreement with the Berkshire Black Bears to acquire the contract of relief pitcher Joe Cotton. Cotton, who previously spent time in the minor league systems of the Philadelphia Phillies and Oakland Athletics, will attend spring training with the Red Sox in March. He complied a 2-3 record with a 3.06 ERA and 9 saves for the Black Bears in 2002. Joe is the third player from the 2002 Black Bears to sign with a major league team, joining catcher Ryan Smith (San Diego Padres) and infielder Joe Kerrigan (Colorado Rockies).
The Berkshire Black Bears begin their second season at Wahconah Park on June 2 against the Quebec Les Capitales.
