NEWARK, N.J. - New York City radio station WRKS (Kiss FM) will take part in the Newark Bears National Anthem Tryout Saturday at the Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth. Billed as the best variety of Classic Soul and R&B and located at 98.7 on the FM dial, KISS has already begun running 60-second spots promoting the event. In addition, on-air personality Mike Shannon, known for his comical demeanor, will be on hand to emcee the festivities.

"KISS is happy to join forces with the Newark Bears," station Director of Marketing and Promotion Frank Iemmiti said. "Our target audience is older females and a lot of them have children. Just like the Bears, our goal as a station is to be family-friendly and provide family entertainment."

The first interested 100 groups or choirs to sign up on or before February 26 will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of a panel comprised of Shannon and Bears personnel. Individuals can also try out. There will be no charge for groups and individuals. Decisions will not be made on the day of the event and all participants will be notified at a later date with regards to their performance on field at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium prior to the start of a Bears game. Interested parties can find entry forms online at NewarkBears.com or by calling Meghan Lynch at 973-848-1000 ext. 230.

"For us to be able to promote this event in the New York market is tremendous," Newark Vice President/General Manager Chris Bryan said. "This is a way for us to connect with the community and generate interest in our season which is less than 65 days from Opening Day."
