Boston Recalls Grzelcyk for First NHL Stint

Providence, RI - - The Boston Bruins announced today that the team has recalled Providence defenseman Matt Grzelcyk, who will join the team in Pittsburgh and is eligible to play tonight against the Penguins. This comes after forward Matt Beleskey was placed on injured reserve.

Should he make his NHL debut tonight, Grzelcyk will become the tenth player to skate with Providence and Boston this season. Austin Czarnik, Anton Blidh, Danton Heinen, Anton Khudobin, Sean Kuraly, Rob O'Gara, Noel Acciari, Malcolm Subban and Zane McIntyre are the nine others to have done so.

The 22-year blueliner is in his first professional season after four years at Boston University. The Charlestown, Massachusetts native served as captain in both his junior and senior seasons with the Terroirs, earning Hockey East First-Team All-Star honors each year. Over his four-year collegiate career, he skated in 124 games scoring 26 goals and 68 assists for 94 points.

Grzelcyk was drafted by Boston in the third round (85th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and signed a two-year Entry Level contract at the conclusion of BU's 2015-16 season. In 25 games for the P-Bruins, he has one goal and 11 assists (second on the team) for 12 points and a +12 rating (second on the team). His +12 rating is also good for fourth among AHL rookies.
