Boston Bruins sign five players

The Boston Bruins announced today that they have signed defensemen Martin Wilde, Rich Brennan and Kevin Dallman, and centers Matt Herr and Bill Bowler. Dallman signed a three-year contract, Herr and Brennan signed two-year deals and Wilde and Bowler signed one-year contracts.

"These players will extend the depth of our organization," said Bruins General Manager Mike O'Connell. "We look forward to seeing them all at training camp and feel confident that they will contribute this season either in Boston or Providence."

Wilde, 25, played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Vermont (ECAC), posting 6-45-51 totals and 100 PIM in 111 career games from 1997-2001. The 6'4", 215-pound native of Linkoping, Sweden played with the P-Bruins in 2001-02, posting 2-9-11 totals and 46 PIM in 71 games and led the team with a +10 rating.

Brennan, 29, begins his eighth professional season. He has been among the AHL's top defensemen during his career, playing in six consecutive AHL All-Star Games. The 6'2", 200-pound native of Schenectady, New York has 63-172-235 totals and 563 PIM in 383 AHL games. He has 2-5-7 totals and 25 PIM in 39 NHL games with Colorado, San Jose, the New York Rangers and Los Angeles. Brennan had a standout career at Boston University from 1991-95, tallying 26-73-99 totals and 256 PIM in 142 games. He was a member of the Terriers' 1995 NCAA Championship team, capturing the championship with teammate and fellow Bruin blueliner Chris Kelleher in the Providence Civic Center. Brennan was originally selected by the Quebec Nordiques with their third pick, 46th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.

Herr, 26, begins his fifth professional season. He was the Washington Capitals' fourth pick, 93rd overall, in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and began his professional career in 1998-99, splitting the season between the Caps and their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. The 6'2", 204-pound native of Hackensack, New Jersey posted 20+ goal seasons with the Pirates in 1999-2000 and 2000-01. He has 4-5-9 totals and 25 PIM in 52 NHL games, all with Washington. Herr played four seasons of collegiate hockey at the University of Michigan (CCHA), where he was a teammate of fellow Bruin forward Mike Knuble. He posted 72-61-133 totals and 235 PIM in 151 career games with Michigan, and won the 1996 NCAA National Championship.

Bowler, 27, enters his eighth professional season. He tied for fifth in AHL scoring in 2000-01, notching 21-58-79 totals in 72 games with the Syracuse Crunch. The 5'9", 180-pound native of Toronto, Ontario has scored 20 or more goals in five of his seven professional seasons in the AHL and IHL. He has also played in nine NHL games, all with the Columbus Blue Jackets, posting two assists and 8 PIM. Bowler had 149-318-467 totals and 171 PIM in 250 career Ontario Hockey League games with the Windsor Spitfires from 1991-95.

Dallman enters his first professional season after a stellar four-year career with the Guelph Storm of the OHL. He is the Storm's all-time leader in games played (268) and their all-time leader in scoring among defensemen, with 69-191-260 totals. The 5'11", 195-pound native of Niagara Falls, Ontario led the Storm overall and all OHL blueliners in scoring in each of the last two seasons.
