HANOVER, Mass. (Aug. 21, 2015) - After two weeks off, the Boston Breakers will return to action as they head to FC Kansas City for an 8 p.m. E.T. showdown Saturday at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Mo.

The Breakers are coming off a 2-1 win against the Washington Spirit in their home finale on Aug. 8, picking up their first win since May 30.

In front of a sold out crowd of 4,137 fans, Boston wasted no time in getting on the board, scoring two goals within the first 20 minutes of the match. Julie King put Boston ahead on a header from a corner kick by Kristie Mewis in the 13th minute. Boston struck again five minutes late as Kyah Simon also netted her second goal of the season. Stephanie McCaffrey sent in a cross, but Washington was unable to cleanly clear the ball and Simon tapped in the loose ball inside the box to give Boston a 2-0 lead after the first half.

Washington came out with a relentless attack in the second half and tested Breakers keeper Alyssa Naeher, but Naeher held her ground, making four spectacular saves in a row, but Diana Matheson was able to get one by Naeher to make it a one-goal game in the 49th minute. Both teams battled the rest of the game, but Boston prevailed, winning 2-1 and picking up three points.

Naeher earned NWSL Player of the Week honors for her efforts as she racked up 12 saves, which tied a career-high.

Boston improved its record to 4-10-3 record with the win. FC Kansas City sits in fourth place with 25 points and holds a 7-6-4 record.

The Blues have shut out opponents in their last two matches and are most recently coming off a 3-0 win against Portland Thorns FC. Amy Rodriguez, Mandy Laddish and Erika Tymrak all found the back of the net for Kansas City. Nicole Barnhart leads the NWSL in shutouts with six, including two in a row. Barnhart is second in the league with six wins.

Boston and Kansas City have split their series this season. Boston took the first game, 1-0, on May 30 at home as Mewis delivered a last-second goal in stoppage time to give Boston the win. Kansas City avenged Boston on July 9. Shea Groom delivered the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute as Kansas City escaped with a 3-2 decision. Mewis and Morgan Marlborough, both former FC Kansas City players, scored for Boston in the loss.

After Saturday's match at Kansas City, Boston will face a quick turnaround and head west to face Seattle Reign FC on Aug. 26 and will close out its season at the Houston Dash on Aug. 30.
