Boston Breakers News Release
HANOVER, Mass. (March 20, 2015) - The Boston Breakers got a pair of goals from Maddy Evans and one each from Suzane Pires and Bianca Brinson to top Boston College, 4-0, in their first game of the 2015 preseason.
The teams played three periods, and the Breakers had most of the possession in the first period, but came out scoreless after 35 minutes. Keeper Alyssa Naeher started the game for the Breakers and made a great save on a one-on-one situation close to goal.
The Breakers opened the scoring in the first minute of the second period when Evans rounded her defender and keeper before striking for Boston's first goal of the preseason. Keeping up the momentum in the second period, the Breakers started to create more threatening forward play. This resulted in Evans' second goal. After some combination play between Stephanie Verdoia and Morgan Marlborough, they connected with Evans, who spun her defender and scored to give the Breakers a 2-0 lead at the 22-minute mark.
In the final minute of the second period, Pires made it a 3-0 game. After good buildup play, Pires latched onto a pass and curled in her shot, a left-footed strike past a fully outstretched keeper.
The Breakers further improved their ball movement in the third period, and it resulted in a goal for Brinson in the 19th minute. The former Texas A&M star picked up the ball on the halfway line and drove at defenders before cutting on her left foot 20 yards out.
Breakers keeper Jami Kranich played the second and third periods and commanded her area well and off her line when called upon. Boston College had some early chances in the game and battled hard throughout the match.
