Boston Breakers Head to New Jersey Saturday

HANOVER, Mass. (July 24, 2015) - The Boston Breakers will head south to New Jersey for their third game in seven days as they face Sky Blue FC at 7 p.m. ET Saturday at Yurcak Field.

A rivalry dating back to 2009 in Women's Professional Soccer, Sky Blue FC and the Breakers will meet Saturday for the 20th time. Sky Blue leads the overall series, 7-5-7.

Boston will make a quick turnaround after falling late to the first-place Chicago Red Stars Wednesday night by a final of 2-1. Boston slipped to 3-7-3 overall and remain in eight place in the NWSL standings with 12 points. Sky Blue FC sits in ninth place with 11 points and a 2-6-5 record.

With several teams in contention for the NWSL playoffs, a Breakers win Saturday would send them into tie for fifth place with the Western New York Flash. A draw would bump the Breakers up to seventh place, tied with Portland Thorns FC.

In front of a roaring crowd of 3,403, Boston's highest of the season, Chicago's Melissa Tancredi put the Red Stars ahead late in the first half Wednesday off an assist from Alyssa Mautz. The Breakers offense stormed back in the second half as Kyah Simon made her home debut memorable, netting the equalizer in the 69th minute on a diving heading off a cross from Stephanie McCaffrey. However, Chicago's Christen Press netted the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute.

Boston hosted Sky Blue FC on May 22, and the teams played to a 1-1 draw. Katy put Sky Blue up early in the eighth minute on a shot from well outside the box, but McCaffrey would tie the game on a nice one-timer just inside the box in the 60th minute.

Sky Blue is most recently coming off a 3-3 draw at the Western New York Flash on June 19. The three goals were a season high for Sky Blue as World Cup champions Christie Rampone and Kelly O'Hara made their returns. Freels and Nadia Nadim scored the first two goals on assists from O'Hara, while Rampone delivered the tying goal as Sky Blue escaped with a point.

Freels leads the team with 11 points and has accounted for almost half of Sky Blue's goals, netting a team-high five while assisting on one. Namin follows close behind with three goals and one assist.

Brittany Cameron has seen plenty of action in goal this season as leads the league with 70 saves.

Breakers goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was stellar in her return to Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium, saving seven shots and keeping the furious Chicago attack at the helms with several spectacular saves.

Katie Schoepfer made her 77th appearance in a Breaker uniform on Wednesday, moving into second place all-time in franchise history.

Boston will return in August for its final two matches of the season at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium. The Breakers will host Seattle Reign FC on Aug. 1 and the Washington Spirit on Aug. 8.
