HANOVER, Mass. (Nov. 3, 2014) - The Boston Breakers announced today that they have acquired the rights to defender Amy Barczuk from the Western New York Flash in exchange for their second-round pick (No. 18 overall) in the 2015 NWSL College Draft.
"Amy is another young, hard-working, and talented player we are bringing into our squad," Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "While at Western New York, she featured in the Flash's successful 2013 run and got plenty of experience during the playoff games. She adds more depth and options to our defensive unit, and I am pleased we were able to secure her rights and agree contractual terms."
Barczuk, 24, played two seasons for the Flash, appearing in 19 games (nine starts) in 2014. The Centennial, Colo., native was the No. 14 overall pick in the 2013 NWSL College draft by the Flash and started four of the nine games she appeared in during her rookie season.
Following the 2013 NWSL campaign, Barczuk played for top-flight Russian club WFK Zorky in the offseason, making four starts and logging 360 minutes in UEFA Women's Champions League action.
"As we start to rebuild, I am happy with the new players and what they bring to a new-look roster," Billiard added. "With the addition of Amy, attention now turns to some more attacking players, and I am confident there will be additions in that specific area coming very soon."
A member of the U.S. U-23 national team player pool, Barczuk played collegiately at the University Colorado, where she appeared in 78 games and tallied 16 goals and six assists.
