Des Moines, IA - After a back and forth fourth quarter, Josh Bostic hit two free throws with 24.4 seconds left in the game to give the New Mexico Thunderbirds (5-4) the lead for good as they beat the Iowa Energy (8-2) 111-106 to end a three-game losing streak.

The Thunderbirds trailed by as many as 13 points in third quarter, but used a 14-0 run to take a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Thunderbirds were led by a trio of players with over 20 points in the game. Bostic led all scorers with 29 points, Alan Anderson had 25 points and Shane Edwards added 20 points.

The Energy started the game by taking a 12-4 lead with 7:39 remaining in the first quarter. The Thunderbirds answered with a 14-6 run to tie up the game at 18-18. Michael Haynes hit two late three-pointers for Iowa and they led 28-24 after one quarter. Edwards led all scorers with nine points in the quarter.

The Thunderbirds used a quick 6-0 midway through the second quarter to take their largest lead of the game, 44-39. Iowa answered with a 21-7 run to close the half and take a 60-51 lead at the break. Kyle Weaver keyed the Iowa offensive attack with 12 second quarter points.

The teams played a see-saw fourth quarter with neither team leading by more than three points until late in the quarter. The Thunderbirds led by two points with 1:15 to go, but Curtis Stinson hit a jump shot to tie up the game at 104-104. With 25 seconds to go Bostic grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled on the put back attempt. He hit both free throws to give the Thunderbirds a two-point lead. The Thunderbirds knocked down six of seven free throws down the stretch for the five-point win.

The Thunderbirds will return home on Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. against the Reno Bighorns. The game will include a half-time $500 dollar half court shot contest. On Friday, Dec. 17, the T-Birds will host Toys for Tots Night, where families donating an unwrapped toy will receive a free kid's ticket to the game. In addition, if no one wins the shot contest on Wednesday night, the prize money will be doubled to $1,000 and a second half-time half court shot contest will take place during Friday's game. The Thunderbirds will wrap up the month on Dec. 31 with "Hoopin' and Hollerin' New Years Eve", featuring a special performance by actor and comedian, Steven Michael Quezada.
