Bossier-Shreveport's Carroll Named CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender for 2005-2006
March 23, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Bossier-Shreveport's Ken Carroll has today been named the Central Hockey League's Most Outstanding Goaltender for the 2005-2006 season. Carroll led all voting among CHL Coaches, Communications staff members and media members in each market, appearing on 22 of 50 submitted ballots. The award is "Presented annually to the Central Hockey League's most outstanding goaltender, in memory of Scott Brower, former CHL goaltender and Corpus Christi employee."
In 31 appearances for the Northeast Division regular season champion Mudbugs, Carroll has compiled a record of 20-7-4 while registering a 2.31 goals against average, the third best mark in the CHL. Along with a .921 save percentage, Carroll has recorded four shutouts this season to give him a career total of 19, second only to the 22 posted by Rod Branch. Carroll's 20 victories in 2005-2006 have moved him into 6th place on the career CHL wins list with a total of 121.
Also selected as the âBest Goaltender' in the 2005-2006 CHL Best of the Best poll, Carroll earned both Most Outstanding Goaltender and Rookie of the Year honors in the 2000-2001 season, helping Bossier-Shreveport win their third straight Western Professional Hockey League championship prior to the merger with the CHL the following year.
A four-time All-Star, Carroll was named to the 2005-2006 All-CHL Team on Monday. Other finalists for Most Outstanding Goaltender honors this season included Colorado's Paulo Colaiacovo, Laredo's David Lemanowicz, Odessa's Mike Gorman, Oklahoma City's Sean Connors and Wichita's Sebastien Laplante. Gorman, the award's recipient in the 2001-2002 CHL season, finished second in voting with Lemanowicz third.
Later today the winner of the Most Outstanding Defenseman award will be announced, with Austin's Aaron Schneekloth, Colorado's Brad Williamson, Laredo's Serge Dube, Memphis' Derek Landmesser, Oklahoma City's Tyler Fleck and Wichita's Daniel Tetrault appearing as finalists.
Friday both the 2005-2006 Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player award recipients will be announced.
