THE STAKES: It could be said that the Battle Wings officially have their backs against the wall as far as a playoff berth is involved. Last year at 2-7, Bossier fought back into contention with three straight victories in June. A repeat performance would go a long way toward accomplishing that goal again in 2005.
THE SERIES: This will be the first time the two teams have locked horns since the 2003 season when Macon took a 49-44 decision from the 'Wings in Georgia. The road was unkind to Bossier's third-year team - the Battle Wings lost all eight of their games away from the Century Tel Center.
THE IFs:
If Bossier/Shreveport defeats Macon...
⢠it will stop a two-game losing streak;
⢠it will match the 'Wings 2004 record through the first 10 games;
⢠it will be the first-ever victory in the Eastern Time Zone in nine attempts;
⢠the Battle Wings will be 1-1 all-time against Macon;
⢠the 'Wings will have a chance to make up two games on Oklahoma City in two weeks. Bossier plays the Yard Dawgz next opponent and one of the teams they're chasing for a playoff spot..

HEAD COACHES: The Battle Wings Keith Barefield (7-18) may be the most excited 2-7 coach in the af2 ranks this season. After an 0-4 start, he changed DC's (moving up Mike Green) and saw his team adjust in May for a 2-2 race to the break. Included in that "May Day" schedule was a huge 28-22 upset victory over then-top ranked and undefeated Florida. Bossier broke in seven new players during a close loss at Albany that had the skipper looking forward to this week's game in Georgia............
LAST SERIES MEETING: Macon defeated Bossier/Shreveport 49-44 in Georgia on June 7, 2003. That remains until this week the only match-up between the two squads. Bossier went 0-8 on the road that season en route to a 3-13 finish while Macon ended that same season in the ArenaCup, losing 58-40 at Tulsa for the af2 championship.

BAREFIELD BITES:
Battle Wings head coach Keith Barefield on the loss at Albany: "Naturally, we'redisappointed in the loss. We felt good coming off the bye week and overall our new kids played a good game. There were about three plays in that game that had they turned out different, we might be looking at a win instead of a loss."
Barefield on Reggie Perkins at OS: "Bunkie has played well for us all year and he had a stellar performance for us on Saturday. He's done that as a two-way and now as an OS. He's one of the most versatile players we have. Whether he stays there (at OS) or not remains to be seen, but he'll definitely be on the field."
Barefield on the Battle Wings' defense: "We looked at the film and noticed some uncharacteristic play from a couple of guys that hurt. I think we can correct all that, though, and be right back where we were the previous two games when we only allowed 53 points."
Barefield talks about the new guys: "There were a lot of roster changes going in and sveral rookies made their debuts. I thought the new guys played very well. It gives us some optimism for Saturday and the rest of the season."
Barefield on Macon's Knights: "They're a team that's pretty similar to us in that they're at a crossroads. They're looking for a win to give them a boost just like we are. Every game we play from here on out is an important game."
HEAD EAST? BE WARY (Chapter II): The Wings have made eight trips east of the Central Standard Time Zone in their history and have yet to come back home with a win. They get their final regular-season chance this week when they head to Macon, GA for a second-ever tilt against the Knights. Macon edged Bossier 49-44 two years ago, then went on to play in the ArenaCup where it lost to Tulsa.
NO JUNE SWOON: The Battle Wings won three of their five games last season during the month of June and can still repeat that performance with victories at Macon (June 11), at home against Oklahoma City (June 18) and on the road at Amarillo (June 25).
FORWARD MOTION: The 'Wings play at home on June 18 for the first time in a month, hosting the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Bossier dropped a 52-17 loss in Oklahoma to start the current road trip, but the defense played much better than the final score indicated. OKC scored on three interceptions returned for TD's while the Battle wing defense allowed just 31 points. With Oklahoma City still within striking distance, it will be a huge game in respects to Bossier's playoff hopes.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: K Brian Hazelwood has quietly booted his way to or near the top of the af2 kicking stats and has made hay on all five 2-pt. drop-kick PATs. Those five successful kicks rank him second all-time in af2 history...
