Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
The Florida State League announced the 2011 End of Season All-Stars on Monday. The list is comprised of the top players from both divisions and features two Charlotte Stone Crabs players. Second baseman Tyler Bortnick and shortstop Hak-Ju Lee earned the honor for their fine overall play this season. Both men were also named to the FSL Mid-Season All-Star team earlier this season.
Lee, 20, was among the top hitters in the FSL before being promoted to Double-A Montgomery on August 10. He opened the season with a 14-game hitting streak and ranked third in the league with a .317 average at the time the End of Season All-Star team was announced. Lee has participated in the MLB All-Star Futures Game each of the past two seasons and has been selected as an All-Star at every level he has played since beginning his career in the Chicago Cubs organization in 2009. The Rays acquired Lee in January as part of a trade that sent Matt Garza to Chicago.
Bortnick, 24, has been the run-producing catalyst for the Stone Crabs this season, pacing the club in numerous offensive categories. At the time the End of Season All-Star team was announced, Bortnick was leading the FSL with 41 stolen bases, and ranked a close second with a .423 on-base percentage. Bortnick ranked second in the league with 88 runs scored, third with 76 walks, and fourth with 32 doubles as well. He has already set a single-season franchise high with 62 RBIs, and his next stolen base will allow Bortnick to set another club record. The Rays selected Bortnick in the 16th Round of the 2009 Draft out of Coastal Carolina University.
The Charlotte Stone Crabs close out the regular season home schedule this week against the Jupiter Hammerheads on August 30 and 31, and host the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday, September 3 for the final home game of the season.
Tickets are available starting at just $6 at the Charlotte Sports Park box office, by phone at 941-206-HITS or online at stonecrabsbaseball.com .
