Border Cats Hold off MoonDogs

The Border Cats turned a laugher into a nail biter on Monday night in Mankato as they hung on to beat the MoonDogs 13-12 at Franklin Rogers Park. The Cats had built up a 13-5 lead thanks to scoring three runs in the 6th inning, two runs in the 8th, and four runs in the top of the 9th. However, the MoonDogs wouldn't go quietly as they rallied to score seven times in the bottom of the 9th inning before Ryan Atwood (Florida Gulf Coast University) saved the game by striking out Chase Simpson with the bases loaded to end it. Clint Knoblauch (Florida Gulf Coast University) started for the Cats and picked up his first win. The righthander gave up six hits over 6 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, although only two runs were earned. Knoblauch, who entered the game with an 0-3 record, walked four and struck out two.

Tyler Duplantis (Nicholls State University) led the Cats offensivley, going 5-6, with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Cory Kay (Harper College) went 2-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Dylan Becker (Missouri State University) knocked in three runs as he had a 2-5 night at the plate with a double and two runs scored. Jason Vosler (Northeastern University) also had two hits in five at-bats with a double and two RBI.

The Cats (11-16), conclude their four-game road trip with a matinee game Tuesday in Mankato. First pitch is set for 2:05pm ET. Chris Kerwood (Arkansas State University) willl make his fifth appearance and fourth start for Thunder Bay. The righthander has a 2-0 record with a 5.29 ERA.
