Altoona Curve News Release
(ALTOONA, PA) â The Eastern League announced Monday that Curve outfielder Josh Bonifay has been named the league's Player of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4.
The 24-year old broke out of an early season slump this past week by posting a .500 average (12-for-24) with 4 HR and 12 RBI in six games during the week. The right-handed hitter homered in four consecutive games from April 30th to May 3rd, falling one game shy of the franchise record for consecutive games with a home run (5), set by Adam Hyzdu during the 1999 season.
For the season, Bonifay is batting ..310 with team-highs in home runs (6) and RBI (20) in his first season at the Double-A level after being selected in the 24th round of the 1999 June draft. Last season with Class-A Lynchburg, he batted .307 with 26 HR and 102 RBI in being named to the Carolina League's post-season All-Star squad.
Bonifay is the Curve's first Player of the Week winner since J.J. Davis (Player) and John Grabow (Pitcher) took home the honors in the same week last August 5-11.
The Curve resumes action on its season-long nine-game road trip with the first of a three-game series at Akron on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. with right-hander Landon Jacobsen (3-1, 1.37) making his sixth start of the season.
