Battle Creek, Mich. - The Battle Creek Bombers are pleased to announce the signings of two players from Santa Clara University, INF/OF Ryan Budnick and RHP Nick Medeiros.

1B/OF Ryan Budnick (6'1", 215, Junior, Bats: R/Throws: R)

The 2015 season is Budnick's first at Santa Clara after transferring from Edmonds Community College (Edmonds, Wash.). He has started at designated hitter and hit cleanup in each of the Broncos' first seven games this season. Last spring, as a sophomore, Budnick starred for Edmonds, leading his team to a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges North Region Championship and, in the process, earning first-team all-NWAACC honors. In 24 games for the Tritons, he hit .395 with six home runs, 16 doubles, and 43 runs batted in. Budnick comes from a baseball family, as his great-grandfather Mike Budnick was a starting pitcher for the New York Giants from 1946-1947.

"Ryan is a very powerful hitter who I see as a key utility guy in Battle Creek this summer," Head Coach Robert Robinson said of the Santa Clara cleanup hitter. "His plate discipline is above and beyond, and he has the power to drive the pitch he wants."

RHP Nick Medeiros (6'0", 205, Junior, Bats: R/Throws: R)

In 2014, his sophomore season, Medeiros made 20 relief appearances for Santa Clara. He threw 23 and 2/3 innings, posting a 2-1 record and a 6.85 earned run average, while striking out 12 batters. In his time as a Bronco, Medeiros has pitched against some of the elite programs in college baseball including Cal Poly, Pepperdine, and Stanford.

Last summer, Medeiros was a standout pitcher for the Palm Springs Power of the Southern California Collegiate Baseball League, throwing 28 and 2/3 innings in 11 appearances. His only start for the Power was a complete game, in which scattered seven hits and two runs and was rewarded with the win. The Santa Clara product struck out 32 batters, walked only 10, and posted a 2.83 ERA in helping the Power win the SCCBL Championship.

"Nick is going to come in and challenge hitters right away," Robinson said. "Whenever he comes to the ballpark, he leads people with great energy. When he takes the mound, he is ready to go and that mentality spreads to the rest of the team."

Check out Budnick, Medeiros, and the rest of the 2015 Bombers at C.O. Brown Stadium this summer. The Bombers start play on May 26th, opening day of the Northwoods League season, when they host the defending NWL Champion Lakeshore Chinooks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
