Bombers Kick Off Home Series with Walk-off Fireworks

BRYAN, Texas - After a three-game series in San Antonio, the Brazos Valley Bombers returned to Edible Field just in time for a Firework Friday night as they kicked off a two game-series against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.

Bomber fans filled the seats at Edible Field as they enjoyed a night of fireworks, fun and an electric baseball atmosphere. The Bombers came into Saturday night looking to gain some ground in the TCL standings, sitting just two above Acadiana.

The Bombers showed patience at the plate early, with the first three batters drawing walks. Designated hitter Casey Sunseri was aggressive on the basepath, stealing every base to give the Bombers their first run of the night

Bomber hitting came to life in the second inning as left fielder Zane Schmidt led off with a base hit. Schmidt proceeded to steal second base as right fielder Brett Squires drew a walk. Sunseri once again came up big for the Bombers, delivering a two run double, giving the Bombers a 3-1 lead. Head Coach James Dillard was especially pleased with the teams' progress on the basepath.

"We wanna be an aggressive group on the base path. We wanna make them throw us out and make things difficult for the opposing team so being able to add that threat to our arsenal is a big part in helping us win games," Dillard said.

Defensively, starting pitcher Joseph Menefee pitched three strong innings, striking out six batters and allowing just one run and one walk. Menefee settled in during the third inning as he struck out the side. Chris Shull also pitched three quality innings in relief, recording five strikeouts, only allowing one walk and two runs, while posting a three-to-one strike-to-ball ratio.

Despite the pesky base running and dominant pitching, Acadiana hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, giving them a lead they would not squander. The Bombers, however, showed resilience in the bottom of the eighth inning as Grayson Tatrow smoked a leadoff triple to left field and was later driven in by catcher Ryan Snell, cutting Acadiana's lead to just one.

Just when all hope seemed to be lost, the Bombers completed a ninth inning comeback that had every fan at Edible Field on their feet. First baseman Shelby Becker started the rally with a game-tying double that scored Casey Sunseri.

Tatrow was not done with his heroics as he delivered a walk off double to deep center field, scoring Becker as their Bomber teammates poured out of the dugout to celebrate the 6-5 win.

"Tonight was a huge team win. This is a really resilient group and I was just doing my best up there trying to help our guys out because they're working their butt off. It was a really fun experience," Tatrow said.

The Bombers continue their two-game series against Acadiana Saturday night at Edible Field at 7:05 p.m. Fans will enjoy another night of fireworks as the team hosts over 800 employees from GATX.
