Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Bryan/College Station, Texas - April 12, 2018 - When players join the Bombers, most are not from the direct area and instead have to spend the summer with a host family. These families house, feed, and make the players feel like they are at home while they play baseball during the summer.
Larry "Pops" Fikes and his wife Penny, have been host families for the Bombers for the last five years and have enjoyed their experience. They have hosted 9 players since 2013, when their first Bomber, Hunter Milton, stayed with them during the summer. "We fell in love with the idea of meeting, socializing, and helping the players and their families, and that is why we became a host family," Fikes said. The opportunity to become a host family is something many in our local community have enjoyed as they have been able to help players feel welcome and watch them grow as ball players and as men long after their time as Bombers is over.
Our host families have gone on to be a part of the players' lives long after they leave Brazos Valley. The relationship between the player and their host families transcends the responsibility of one summer. Host families are invited by their players to weddings, graduations, and the players become part of the family.
The Bombers currently have only a few available spots left for local families to serve as host families and those who are interested in becoming a host family can fill out an application at http://www.bvbombers.com/team/host-family/.
