Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Dallas, TX - The Brazos Valley Bombers (33-12) defeated the Texas Marshals (16-30) on Saturday in a landslide victory, 14-3.
It was a great night at the plate for the Bombers, with nineteen hits in forty-six at bats for the team. Designated hitter and first baseman Grady Caldwell was a stand-out, going 4 for 5 with one RBI and four runs. The Bombers added two home runs to their stat sheet, thanks to a lead-off home run by shortstop Horacio Correa III and first baseman G.R. Hinsley with a two run homer in the sixth.
The Bombers brought in three more runs in the first inning after Correa's home run behind base hits by third baseman Logan Nottebrok, Caldwell, and catcher Tucker Pennell.
The Marshals were able to hold the Bombers to their four runs until the fourth inning, when another three runs came across the plate. Center fielder Matt Hilston brought in the first run of the inning off a base hit. Correa and Hilston both made their way around the bases thanks to errors by the Marshals defense, bringing in two more runs.
Pennell and left fielder Ford Moore sent two more runs home in the fifth after base hits and right fielder Blake Kopetsky and Hinsley, with his home run, brought in another three in the sixth.
The Bombers scored their final two runs in the eighth inning, thanks to Pennell sending one home on a sacrifice hit and Kopetsky taking advantage of an error by the Marshals.
The Marshals would answer the Bombers in the eighth inning with a three run homer by first baseman James Sloan, but it would not be enough to overcome the Bombers incredible fourteen run lead.
Cody Brannon, the winning pitcher for the night, led the charge on the mound for the Bombers with five innings of work and one strikeout. Relief pitchers Nick Johnson and Andre Shewcraft each made an appearance out of the bullpen.
A new face joined the bullpen crowd, with Dane Steinhagen, a regular in the Bombers outfield, stepping up to the mound. Steinhagen had two strikeouts in his debut on the Bombers pitching staff.
The Bombers will face the Texas Marshals again on Sunday at Jesuit High School in Dallas at 7:05 p.m. They will return home to Cellucor Field on Tuesday to face the Victoria Generals at 7:05 p.m. for the first game in a two game series.
