Bombers' Britt Dominates And Shuts Out Sliders
July 17, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders lost the opener of a home and home series with the Dubois County Bombers 5-0 at League Stadium in Huntingburg, IN tonight. As has been the habit of the Sliders lately, they fell behind in the very first inning, as two errors cost them a run to give the Bombers the early lead. The Bombers would add three to their lead in the second inning after 2B Bo Ausmus hit a three run double. Dubois County picked up another run in the fourth to chase Sliders' starter JD Dozier and increase their lead to 5-0. The real story tonight was Bombers' starting pitcher Alex Britt. Britt went the distance for the Bombers, giving up just three hits and three walks while striking out a season-high ten, needing 119 pitches to do so. He had the Sliders' hitters off-balance all night, and in addition to the ten strikeouts, induced several pop ups and lazy fly balls off the Sliders' bats. The Sliders' bullpen did pitch four shutout innings of relief, but the bats were never really able to wake up against Britt and take advantage. Tomorrow, the two teams will meet again, this time in Springfield at Robin Roberts Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 and the game will be broadcast on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
The Springfield Sliders are members of the Prospect League, playing at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. The Sliders are members of the Western Division along with the Danville (IL) Dans, DuBois County (IN) Bombers, Hannibal (MO) Cavemen, Quincy (IL) Gems, and Terre Haute (IN) Rex.
