Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan/College Station, TX - May 23, 2019 - Three members of the University of Incarnate Word baseball team are adding their names to the Bombers' 2019 roster. Utility player Sean Arnold, outfielder Ridge Rogers and pitcher Christian Vega will lend their talents in the Brazos Valley.

Arnold is a junior catcher/utility player at UIW and was recently named to the All-Southland Conference First Team. This summer will be a homecoming for Arnold, a Bryan, TX native who also earned First Team honors at Rudder High School. Arnold is a utility player that brings consistency to the plate. Arnold had the longest hitting streak for the Cardinals this season at 14 and the longest reached-base streak with 43.

"Sean Arnold is a no-brainer pick-up for us," says Head Coach Brian Nelson. "This guy is the utility knife for us. He'll play in the outfield, second base, catch, maybe play a little first. This guy can do it all. We are super excited to have him. He's a threat in the lineup, and he's going to be a phenomenal locker room guy for us."

Rogers, a sophomore at UIW, stole eight bases for the Cardinals in 2019, tied with Arnold for second-most on the team. He was productive at bat, as well, with 11 multi-hit games this season. Rogers started 51 games at Incarnate Word in 2018 and 36 in 2019. Rogers joins the Bombers from Flower Mound, TX, and the team is excited to have such a versatile player in the outfield.

"Ridge is going to be a valuable asset for us at center field," says Nelson. "This dude is a flat-out athlete. He can run. ... He's got a great arm. He can hit. We're excited about having this guy. He's a true five-tool player."

Vega appeared in 12 games and notched 15 strikeouts in relief for Incarnate Word during his rookie season. Vega held opposing batters to a team second-best .190 batting average across 22 innings pitched. The right-handed freshman pitches well into the high 80s. Vega earned a spot on the District 19-6A First Team as a starting pitcher as a result of his success at Katy High School in 2018.
