Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers continued to fine tune their roster for training camp with today's signings of import defensive end Jauron Dailey, import receiver Aaron Fairooz and import safety Dwayne Slay.

As per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to add three players of this caliber as we get closer to the start of training camp," Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman said.

"All three have enjoyed personal and team success at every level they have played and we expect them to turn some heads at training camp."

Dailey (6-4, 235, Florida A & M '01, DOB: May 22, 1978 in Southfield, MI) began his pro football career in 2001 after signing with the NFL's Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent. He spent the season on injured reserve after suffering a torn ligament in training camp. Dailey re-signed with the Redskins in 2002, but was released in July of that year. In 2006, he played with the semi-pro Atlanta Prime of the Southeastern American Football League.

In 2007, Dailey joined the Columbus Lions of the World Indoor Football League and was named the co-winner of the WIFL's Defensive Player of the Year Award after leading the league in quarterback sacks with nine QB stops. He joined the Montreal Alouettes late last year and spent time on the CFL team's practice roster.

Prior to turning pro, Dailey played two seasons at Youngstown State (1996 and '97) and won a NCAA Division 1-AA national championship in ‘97. He subsequently transferred to Florida A & M. After red-shirting in 1998, he had two solid seasons with the Rattlers in 1999 and 2000. In 1999, Dailey led the team and the nation in quarterback sacks with 18 and was in on 48 tackles, including a team-high 17 tackles for losses.

Fairooz (6-6, 215, Central Arkansas '07, DOB: Nov. 10, 1983 in Mansfield, Texas) played four seasons (2003-06) with the University of Central Arkansas Bears. He was a three-year starter and received All-Conference honours following his junior and senior campaigns. In 2006, he caught 55 passes for 774 yards and had six touchdown receptions. He had 76 catches for 1,197 yards and 12 TDs in 2005.

Fairooz was one of two Central Arkansas players who were invited to the 2007 NFL Scouting Combine. He impressed scouts with his size (6-6, 215 pounds) and speed (4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash).

Slay (6-3, 214, Texas Tech ‘05, DOB: June 21, 1984 in Brunswick, Ga.) is a hard-hitting safety who first made a name for himself at Texas Tech University. Despite playing only one full season as a starter for the Red Raiders, he set a new Big 12 record with eight forced fumbles in a season. He was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 by the Associated Press and also captured First-Team All-American honours from Sports Illustrated magazine.

Although he was ranked as one of top 25 prospects for the 2006 NFL Draft by ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., Slay ended up being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chicago Bears. He spent time on the Bear's practice roster before being released and joined the Amarillo Dusters of the Arena Football 2.
