Rockford Lightning News Release
Roger Powell turned in his best game as a member of the Rockford Lightning in Friday
nights 118-115 victory over the Albany Patroons. He finished with career highs in
points and rebounds contributing 22 and 11 respectively. The Lightning battled back
from an eleven point deficit at the half to improve their league best record to 4-1
and a perfect 3-0 on the road this season.
The Lightning pulled down 16 offensive rebounds, 6 from Powell, and went on to out
rebound their opponents 51-30 in the game. Falling behind early and losing both the
first and second quarter points to the Patroons, the Lightning headed to the locker
room down 50-61 at the half. Shouldered by Powell, Marlon Parmer, and Cordell
Henry, the Lightning fought their way back to win the final two quarter points and
receiving three more for the win, taking five of the possible seven points in the
game.
Henry finished with 19 points and 5 rebounds in his first start of the season while
Parmer led the Lightning with 24 points and 6 assists. Parmer hit 12 of 15 from the
free throw line and the team finished with a season high 77.8 percent from the
line.
Ronald "T.J." Thompson, the number 1 overall pick in the 2005 CBA draft out of
George Washington University led the Patroons with 36 points and finished with 8
assists in the loss. Carl Mitchell finished with 26 points and 9 rebounds for the
Patroons, while Devonnaire Deas picked up 11 assists and 4 steals in his first game
back after serving a 1 game suspension by the league for an unsportsmanlike act in
the Patroons season opener against Michigan last Friday.
