Richmond Kickers News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers' forward Jonathan Bolanos was named the week 22 Player of the Week following his three-goal contributions in the Kickers' 3-0 win over defending champs, Union Omaha. Additionally, forward Emiliano Terzaghi and Jalen Crisler were named to the team of the week. The trio's team of the week-worthy performances are presented by Legends Soccer Co.

Bolanos earns his second player of the week nod in 2022 after previously receiving the honor during week 11. The third-year pro is enjoying an exceptional breakout campaign after earning a USL League One June Player of the Month nomination along with six total weekly honors this season.

"To be named player of the week is always an honor," Bolanos said. "But as I've said before, all of this would not be possible without the other guys and coaching staff being on the same page in executing our game plan.

"To me, awards are always a result of team effort and represent how we continue to dictate play and consistently impose our style of play to win games."

The Miramar, Fla. native was a terror on the wings against the Owls. He started the scoring in the 20th minute after cutting a ball to Ethan Bryant in the box who fired a shot on target forcing a deflected save. Bolanos was there to put back the deflection and break the deadlock.

In the second half, Bolanos used his speed again to assist both of Terzaghi's goals. First, from a free kick, Nil Vinyals played a low-driven ball to the right of the scrum in the box. Bolanos raced past his marker and cut the ball inside at the last second, beating the keeper, and landing right at the feet of Terzaghi who simply passed the ball into the net.

Minutes later, Bolanos found himself in a one-on-one situation in transition. Despite having his legs taken out from under him inside the box, Bolanos quickly collected the ball as the keeper came off his line, and Bolanos cut the ball inside to Terzaghi who was crashing into the box. Unmarked, Terzaghi placed his shot into the net to give the Kickers' a commanding 3-0 lead.

"First off, I would like to thank the 4,886 fans that came out to the game Saturday night, it was truly an amazing atmosphere," Bolanos said. "Second, my thoughts and prayers are with Alex Touche, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

"Coming into the game, we knew it was going to be one of the toughest tests of the season. Omaha is a good team with many attacking threats and a strong back line. So for us, this was a statement game in proving that we can be the best and are deserving to be at the top of the table."

Bolanos currently leads the league with nine assists - one shy of tying the single-season record - while also scoring four goals this season. With 13 total goal contributions in only 14 matches, Bolanos is averaging an assist or goal every 1.08 games.

Terzaghi earns his fifth placement in the league's weekly honors after nabbing a player of the week nod in week 19 while making team of the week in weeks 1, 2, and 14. Crisler earns his fourth placement after previously making the team of the week in weeks 2, 10, and 14.

Along with his goals scored, Terzaghi completed all 100 percent of his attempted dribbles while winning 57 percent of his duels.

"It was a great game at home with our fans," Terzaghi said. " I'm happy to help the team along with my teammates to get the three points in the final stretch of the regular season."

Terzaghi extended his lead in the league's golden boot race with his 13th and 14 goals of the season respectively. The Argentine talisman extended the league's all-time goalscoring record to 42 goals.

Crisler led the line for the Kickers as the team earned its sixth clean sheet of the season and second-straight clean sheet earned at home. The Everett, Wash. native was immense when it came to disrupting Omaha's rhythm on offense, clearing a team-high seven balls while winning a team-high two fouls while not conceding a single foul.

"Being named to the team of the week is a testament to the performance of the whole team this weekend," Crisler said. "I felt this was one of our more complete games we have put together as a team and shows the work we have put in as a group. Akira was great for us as usual and everyone did their part to ensure we kept the clean sheet. We know when we can do that, more times than not our attackers will find us the goal or goals we need.

He continued, "we still have more to improve and work on, but it felt great to put in a performance like that at home in front of a record crowd. This is a special group and I am excited to see what we can do over the next few months together."

The Kickers have conceded the second-fewest goals in the league with 27 while ranking tied for third in the league with six clean sheets.

The Kickers finish their current homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 7th when they host South Georgia Tormenta FC. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. A special in-stadium will begin when doors open at 5 p.m. and last until kickoff at 6:30 p.m. that includes $3 cans of Heineken and $8 wine. Tickets for the match are available at richmondkickers.com/tickets.
