Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, ID - The Boise Hawks will open the home portion of their 24th season of Northwest League play on Monday June 21, 2010 with a five game series against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The home opener will feature the first of NINE post-game fireworks shows. The '10 season begins with the Boise Hawks traveling to Yakima for a three game series against the Yakima Bears June 18 through June 20.

For the first time in years the Boise Hawks will not have a home game on July 4, but will host a three game homestand July 1 through July 3. The Hawks are hosting the Yakima Bears and will feature fireworks shows after the games on both July 2 and July 3.

In an interesting twist, the Northwest League is moving to a split-season format in 2010. A First-Half Champion in each Division will be crowned after the first 38 games. Those teams will then meet the Second-Half Champions in a best-of-three Divisional Series to open the post season. If the Second-Half Champion is the same as the first, the team with the second best overall record will secure a playoff birth. After the Divisional Series, the two remaining teams will meet in a best-of-three Championship Series to determine the Northwest League Champion.

Fans can anticipate many exciting nightly promotions, and theme nights during the 2010 season! $1 Wednesdays will be back in 2010, Friday night games will feature post-game fireworks, and Saturday nights will feature some fantastic giveaways! A complete promotional and giveaway schedule will be released in the spring.

All Boise Hawks home games will start at 7:15 p.m., the exception will be July 3 with the game starting at 7:35 p.m.

Boise ended the 2009 season with a 34-42 record, taking third in the Division. Logan Watkins was named Team MVP and Robert Hernandez Pitcher of the Year in a post-game ceremony, with Greg Rohan named Most Popular in a Fan Vote and Ryan Sontag was honored for his Community Service. The Boise Hawks currently have 69 former Hawks in the Big Leagues.

The Hawks began Northwest League play as an independent club from 1987-89. The team was affiliated with the Anaheim Angels from 1990-2000 and has been with the Chicago Cubs since 2001.The Hawks are preparing for their 24th season of Northwest League play.
