Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa-United States Hockey League coaches and general managers voted Waterloo Black Hawks forwards Brock Boeser and Tom Novak among the circuit's top first-year players of 2014/15 on Friday.
Each a highly-regarded 2015 NHL Draft prospect, Boeser and Novak were the Hawks' leading two scorers during the winter campaign. Boeser capped the year with 68 points, while Novak amassed 48. The respective Minnesota and Wisconsin natives helped Waterloo to a strong finish and an overall record of 28-26-6.
Boeser was awarded a position on the All-Rookie First Team after tying for the USHL lead with 35 goals; his point total ranked third overall in league. Fifteen of his goals came on the power play, second-most in the USHL, and, with 32 power play points, he tied for first in that category. The 18-year-old recorded three hat tricks and ten multigoal games. A product of Burnsville High School, he is committed to the University of North Dakota.
Novak was named to the All-Rookie Second team. He recorded 14 goals and 34 assists while limited to 46 appearances, and was out of the lineup for all but one of the Hawks' final 11 games due to a lower body injury. He dished out 17 assists on the power play to tie for fourth in the USHL. Novak also finished second on the Black Hawks with a +14 plus/minus rating. He is committed to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota.
This marks the second consecutive season a pair of Waterloo Black Hawks have received All-Rookie accolades. Tyler Sheehy and Hayden Shaw were named to the 2013/14 USHL All-Rookie Team. Over the 12 seasons that the USHL has named an All-Rookie squad, 11 Black Hawks have now been chosen.
