MUSKEGON, Michigan (May 22nd) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are excited to announce that Goaltender Eric Schierhorn has been nominated by USA Hockey as the recipient of this year's Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year Award signifying the top American-born goaltender at the international, professional, collegiate, or junior level. The Lumberjacks netminder is slated to be recognized for the honor at the June 3rd Night of Tribute Awards Dinner during USA Hockey's 2015 Annual Congress held out in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Schierhorn, the Anchorage, Alaska native, recently completed his second full USHL season with the Lumberjacks posting a 26-13-4 regular season record to go with a 2.51 goals-against average, a .927 save percentage, and two shutouts in 43 appearances. The University of Minnesota commit's .927 save percentage led all league netminders along with making the most saves (1,352) of any USHL goaltender. In addition, Schierhorn placed fourth in both minutes played (2560:46) and wins (26).

In December, the former Russell Stover product participated in the 2014 World Jr. A Challenge held out in Kindersley, Saskatchewan helping the U.S. Junior Select Team capture the gold medal after posting a perfect 3-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record to go with a tournament-best 0.97 goals-against average and .959 save percentage. Schierhorn, who notched one shutout during the United States' opening contest, also landed a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

Nearly a month after winning the gold in Canada, Schierhorn skated for Team East in the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game held in Dubuque, Iowa on January 13th participating in a 7-4 victory over Team West.

Overall for his two-year USHL tenure, Schierhorn compiled 52 victories that includes six coming during the Lumberjacks' recent 2015 Clark Cup Playoff run to its first-ever Eastern Conference Championship and Clark Cup Final appearance.

Schierhorn's acknowledgement for the award marks the eighth consecutive season that USHL netminder has garnered the Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year honor.
