Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Igor Bobkov made 32 saves in net for his second shutout of the season as the Norfolk Admirals defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.
A scoreless tie lasted until the 3:17 mark of the third period as Norfolk tallied the only goal of the game. After the Admirals Sami Vatanen held in a puck at the blueline, his shot from the blue was stopped by goalie Jeff Zatkoff, but Brayden Irwin knocked in the rebound for his first marker of the season.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was not without its chances in the match, outshooting Norfolk 32-12 and receiving eight power play opportunities. In gathering his 10th win of the season, Bobkov turned aside stellar chances by Alex Grant during a second-period man-advantage and Tom Kostopoulos on the doorstep late in the third.
Zatkoff let up only Irwin's goal on 12 shots against as his record goes to 16-14-0 on the season. The 12 shots allowed by the Penguins was an AHL-season low.
