Crunch Dominate Senators

Syracuse, NY- JT Wyman scored a hat trick as the Syracuse Crunch dominated the Binghamton Senators 7-1 tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Crunch netminder Riku Helenius made 33 saves en route to the Crunch improving their overall record to 28-14-2-4 and road record to 18-6-0-2. Tonight's win brings the Crunch point total to 62, one point behind the East Division leading Senators.

The Crunch got off to a fast start with goals from Brett Connolly, Wyman and Alex Hutchings giving Syracuse a 4-0 cushion at the end of the first period.

Connolly opened the scoring with a power-play goal 3:51 into the first period. Dana Tyrell fed Connolly the puck from the side boards before Connolly ripped a shot from the slot past Senators goaltender Robin Lehner.

Syracuse went up 2-0 at the 5:36 mark after Gudas collected his own rebound of a wrap-around attempt and shoveled the puck into the crease where Wyman jammed the puck into the net. Less than three minutes later Hutchings converted a wrap-around shot to put the Crunch up 3-0 with 11:48 to play in the opening period.

Wyman scored his second goal of the night on a shorthanded shot from just inside the blueline at the 11:03 mark of the first.

PC Labrie gave the Crunch a 5-0 lead when his centering pass deflected past Lehner at the 12:55 mark of the second.

Senators left wing Shane Prince got Binghamton on the board with a power-play goal with 3:42 to play in the second period. Pat Cannone found Prince with a cross-crease feed that Prince placed past Helenius.

Wyman completed the hat trick 4:40 into the final frame. With an extra Crunch attacker due to a delayed Binghamton penalty Wyman lifted the rebound of a Mark Barberio point shot over Lehner to extend the Crunch lead to 6-1.

Tyrell scored the Crunch's season-high 7th goal with 37 seconds to play in the third period.

The Crunch have one remaining regular season contest against the Senators, they will host Binghamton in their regular-season finale on April 21, 2013.
